Artist Statement:

The inspiration for my zine comes from the classic childhood series, “Where’s Waldo.” These books always stood out to me as a kid and I wanted to put a spin on the overall meaning and message of, “Where is Waldo.” I grappled with the idea of how to make it relevant for a more mature audience but yet still leave some of its childlike wonder. The overall concept I landed on represents the idea that the thoughts we create, and essentially let play on repeat in our brains, are what will ultimately become our reality. Many people think of their aspirations and dream goals often. Others think about who they want to be, or who they are, and what kind of individual they want to grow into. Some people are unfortunately stuck in a depressing and negative thought loop struggling to find an escape. Their neighbor may not be able to stop thinking about something they wish they would’ve done, or something they wish they had said to someone. Whatever variation of thoughts you may be having, it is important not to chase life and instead let life happen. It is about becoming aware of your thoughts, habits, and patterns, and deciding whether or not your “Waldo” is something you really want to be thinking about or not. The energy you put out is the energy you will receive back. Humans are naturally always growing and reflecting. It is never too late to stop “looking” for Waldo and instead create your “Waldo.”
