Artist Statement:
The inspiration for this project came from the Wii sports game I played growing up. I would play Wii Tennis almost every day after school with my best friends in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade so this was a super nostalgic project when creating all the animations for it. I wanted to incorporate myself within the game while still keeping it as realistic as possible. In order to do this I used Adobe Photoshop to create headshot cutouts that I could connect and merge all the layers to create each character. Next, I used Adobe Aftereffects to make all the animations. My favorite tool in Aftereffects was the puppet pin tool. I feel like I started to really get the hang of it about halfway through animating and it wouldn't take me as long to move each character in a realistic motion. I could have gone back and fixed the animations beforehand however I like being able to see my progression throughout. Since I knew the ball would be moving at somewhat of a slower pace than the actual game I wanted to use other elements to keep the video interesting. One example of this was changing the different perspectives of the court each round. I figured this would give the audience a fresh take and keep it feeling more cohesive and flowy. I also wanted to just go with the weirdness of it so I added Egyptian background music and sound effects. Overall this project was really fun to make. It definitely made me appreciate how hard animating is and I feel like I really learned a bunch of new software I wouldn't have otherwise.
